Swift & Vanessa Festival — Gulliver’s Travels at 300
Celbridge’s flagship festival returns for eleven days, this year marking 300 years since Jonathan Swift published Gulliver’s Travels — written during his visits to Vanessa in Celbridge Abbey. Highlights include Ronan Tynan and Deirdre Masterson in concert and an in-conversation event with Katriona O’Sullivan, both on July 18th. A €10 Gulliver Traveller’s Pass gives 25% off all ticketed events across the programme.

A relaxed Sunday car boot sale set inside one of Kildare’s most distinctive 18th-century heritage gardens, a short drive from Celbridge. The Swift & Vanessa Festival closes with a special afternoon at Castletown House marking 300 years since Gulliver’s Travels was published. Expect talks from Dr Brendan Twomey and Royal Irish Academy President Professor Daniel Carey, a performance of Telemann’s Gulliver’s Suite, the launch of satirical cartoons inspired by the book, and a reception to finish.
